Judge Nichole Patton

Nichole Patton is a Cook County Circuit Court Judge currently assigned to the County Division. She presides over cases involving mental health law, adoptions, election law, civil asset forfeitures, name changes and real estate tax objections.

Prior to her role in the judiciary, Nichole was an assistant state’s attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney Office, Special Prosecutions Bureau, Mental Health Unit, where she was responsible for prosecuting cases seeking civil commitment and treatment orders for individuals who were involuntarily detained at mental health hospitals in Cook County.

From 2003 to 2010, Nichole was a sole practitioner with a concentration in real estate, civil litigation, criminal, and securities law. She is the former general counsel for Capital Management Group Securities, LLC where she was responsible for structuring and negotiating business transactions, performing due diligence, and drafting transactional documents.

Nichole was also an associate with the law firm of Iwan Cray Huber Horstman & VanAusdal where she concentrated in the areas of medical malpractice and transportation defense. Before joining Iwan Cray, she was a staff attorney with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where she specialized in personal injury defense and strict liability matters. Nichole also served as an Administrative Hearing Officer for the Village of Matteson where she presides over hearings for housing code violations, towing, compliance and minor criminal offenses.

From 1996 to 2001, Nichole was an assistant state’s attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney Office where she worked in several divisions including appeals, traffic, child protection, delinquency and real estate taxation. During her time with the Office, she performed numerous bench trials and served as lead counsel for several jury trials.

Nichole is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, where she currently serves on the Board of Managers. She is the past Chair of the CBA’s Mental Health and Disabilities Committee. Her community service includes preparing and serving meals for the homeless, raising funds for scholarships, voter registration drives, conducting entrepreneur workshops, serving as a panelist for Anti-Violence forums and providing pro bono legal services. Nichole also served as a volunteer attorney assisting citizens with criminal expungement issues.

Nichole is also a member of the Board of Directors for The Lawyers Club of Chicago, an active member of the Chi Omega Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, South Suburban Chicago Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, and the West Towns (IL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Nichole received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Alabama State University where she was the recipient of the prestigious Presidential Scholarship award, a master’s degree in criminal justice from Chicago State University where she received an academic scholarship, and a Juris Doctor degree from The John Marshall Law School where she was a member of the Moot Court Team. She has taught as an instructor at Prairie State College, and serves as a chairperson over mandatory arbitrations for the Cook County Circuit Court Mandatory Arbitration Center.

Nichole and her husband, Marty, have three children.
